WWF Champion Kane (w/ Paul Bearer)
Remember that time that you blinked in 1998? Well, during that time, Kane had his first (and only) title run as the WWF Champion. After debuting in the WWF in late 1997, Kane ran roughshod through the WWF’s top competitors, taking out everyone from The Hardy Boyz to Vader himself. It only made sense that he would eventually target the WWF Championship, which in June 1998, was held by Stone Cold Steve Austin.
At the 1998 King Of The Ring, the main event was a First Blood Match for the WWF Championship, featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin defending the gold against the challenger, Kane. This seemed highly impractical considering Kane was almost completely covered from head to toe, sans an exposed hand and his chin, but Austin accepted the challenge and defended the title anyway. In the end of the match, it was Austin who was split open, but rather by The Undertaker than Kane, who interfered and struck Austin with a chair, leading to Kane becoming the WWF Champion. The following night, Austin got his rematch against Kane and defeated him to regain the title, but for a brief moment in time, this was the company’s champion.
